Welcome!
Welcome to the home page of the Department of Resource Economics and Development, the primary provider of social science programs in the College of Life Sciences and Agriculture. The Department is home to Bachelor of Science programs in Community and Environmental Planning (CD), Environmental and Resource Economics (EREC), and Tourism Planning and Development (TOUR), as well as MS programs in Resource Economics (RECO) and Resource Administration and Management(RAM). Undergraduate minors in a number of fields are also available. Navigating the site will likely answer any questions you have about faculty, course work, research, or program curriculum. However, we also favor an “open door” policy in the department and welcome drop-ins interested in our courses, majors, and minors if you need additional information.
Our studies focus on sustainable use of our cultural and natural resources, with specialties in Tourism, Public Lands, Fisheries, Wildlife, Agriculture, Forestry, Community Planning, Air Quality and Solid Waste Management. Graduates of our programs have gone on to work for state and local governments, planning commissions, consulting firms, nonprofit groups, and private business; our undergraduates have also gone on to pursue graduate degrees at top universities.
An excellent student/faculty ratio exists for all of our programs. Opportunities for research, internships and field experience are available and encouraged. We are justly proud of our teaching and advising in the department.
Please call, e-mail, or stop by for more information.
