Prospective Undergraduate Students

The Community and Environmental Planning program prepares students for professional careers as local government administrators, town or regional land use planners, and community facilitators in the public and private sectors of the economy. It is an applied social science degree program which provides the student with an understanding of the interrelated, social, economic, political, environmental, and technical factors that contribute to dynamic change in communities. Attention is focused on the managing community change, with an emphasis on community problem determination, problem analysis and resolution, and organizational change and human development. Students can concentrate in the areas of community public administration, community and regional planning, and community and institutional development.

The student in the Environmental and Resource Economics program is trained primarily in the science of economics and its use in problem solving. This program offers study in public resource policy, natural resource and environmental economics, and community economics and finance. Training is also available in agricultural economics, including agribusiness, small business management, food and marine marketing, and world food supplies. Emphasis is also placed on courses related to freshwater and marine economics, land economics, and rural economic development. Majors are encouraged to take courses in other departments related to their interest. For example, students with interest in natural resource and environmental economics could complement their program with courses in the Department of Natural Resources.

The mission of the Tourism Planning and Development Program is to provide students with a greater understanding of tourism and it's role in local, state, national and global, economic, social and cultural development; and to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to manage the human, physical, and financial resources of tourism regions in an environmentally responsible manner.
